The First Tutor program is intended for the graduates of the Polish Children's Fund, but may also include students from among the laureates and finalists of various Scientific Contests for Polish high-school students. The inclusion of these students is in response to the increasing need of individual care for these highly talented pupils. The First Tutor project is aimed at giving young people the opportunity to be exposed to regular and systematic work as well as the opportunity to gain skills and increase their knowledge.
The First Tutor program consists of several elements. The most important element is the formation of the student-tutor relationship. The detailed rules of this relationship are established by the tutors (CI students) and students (high-school pupils). The subject matter of the tutorial is proposed by the pupils. Thanks to the tutorial, its beneficiaries (who will soon become university students themselves) learn how to access necessary library resources, increase their study skills, and have their work checked by benevolent and competent supervisor. At the end of the tutorial period the dissertation is presented, in which they demonstrate the acquired skills in data gathering and analysis, resource location, and preparation of the bibliography and notes.
Thanks to this programme, high-school students can ingeniously develop their interests and - what is especially important - find amiable support in their research activities.
